TrueVision® replaces the eyepiece module with a proprietary high-definition 3D image capture module (ICM) that fits most surgical microscopes. It features the ability to save and retrieve movies and images at the touch of a button. This feature enables users to integrate 3D images from the microscope with other digital image sources such as CT and MRI data. TrueVision® is registered with the FDA as a Class 1 medical device.
Background:
The basic concept of 3D video display and capture on surgical microscopes has been around for many years; however,
- 3D experts were needed for hook-up of all the equipment, proper alignment, etc.
- Systems were cumbersome, analog , and low resolution
- Stereoscopic 3D displays suitable for the OR environment were blurry, CRT-based, and used problematic active 3D eyewear
The Technical Challenge:
Provide a fully integrated, technically advanced, easy-to-use system that has:
- A one-piece camera that easily attaches to surgical microscopes without alignment.
- High resolution (next generation) sensors and real-time 3D imagery
- Advanced digital capabilities.
- Minimal cables, hook-ups, and boxes.
- A stereo 3D display that replicates the view through the eyepieces (e.g., has wide field of view), does not cause eyestrain,
- Comfortable, non-restrictive solution, and is suited to a working OR environment.
The Patented TrueVision® Solution:
A unified plug and play vision system, incorporating multiple technologies, that has three components:
1. The Image Capture Module
- Mechanically designed to replace the eyepieces via a single screw and to fit nearly all surgical microscopes.
- Optically designed to accept the excellent image already provided by the microscope and to match the field of view (FOV) that the surgeon is familiar with.
- Electronically designed to use the latest HD imaging sensors and to provide a digital, real-time signal to the IPU via a single cable.

2. The Image Processing Unit
- System design provides the highest possible bandwidth, which is needed for HD and real-time stereoscopic 3D processing.
- TrueWare™ software design provides 3D display and image capture with advanced digital features including TrueVision®. Coming soon are packages for image enhancement, measurements, surgical planning/image guided surgery integration, and graphical overlays.

3. The Image Display System
- Stereoscopic 3D expertise selects TrueVision® certified components for high-resolution, comfortable, stereo 3D viewing for multiple viewers with minimum intrusion.
- System integration and elegant mechanical design provides an easy-to-use and reliable display system tailored as necessary for the working environment.
- In particular, our Projection Cart is the first display system to provide the bright, high-resolution, wide field of view, multi-viewer 3D image that is needed for the operating room environment.
- Uses comfortable and stylish passive 3D “sunglasses” for view
